Waiting on official figures

This calculator is built, but we have not yet confirmed every rate it needs against the official source. We do not show a guess and we do not carry last year's rate forward.

Waiting on these figures:

  • Latvia's consumer price index series

We will publish as soon as this source confirms the figures:

Frequently asked questions

What is the consumer price index?

It is the average price level of a fixed basket of goods and services, measured every month by the Central Statistical Bureau (Centrālā statistikas pārvalde). The basket holds food, housing, transport, clothing and services, each weighted by its share of household spending.

How is the value of money across years calculated?

Multiply the sum by the ratio of the end-year to the start-year consumer price index, as published by the Central Statistical Bureau. If the index rose thirty percent over ten years, a hundred euro then buys what a hundred and thirty buys today.

Why does felt inflation differ from the official figure?

Because the official figure averages the whole population, while every household's basket differs. If food and heating — which rose more — take a large share of your income, your personal inflation exceeds what the Central Statistical Bureau publishes.

Why does this calculator show no result yet?

Because the index series has to come from the Central Statistical Bureau's publication and be refreshed monthly, and we do not show a figure that no source confirms. The calculator names the missing series and points at the official page where it can be checked.
