About this section
This is the one section where most calculators are waiting. That is not a gap we hide — each of them has a real page naming the exact figure that is missing and the source that will confirm it. When VSAA or VID publish, the page starts computing and gets a verification date.
The hourly rate calculator works today, because it is arithmetic rather than a rate: monthly salary divided by hours worked. Nothing in it can go stale, so it carries neither a source nor a verification date — and that is correct. A citation vouching for division would mean the citations on this site guarantee nothing.
If you are looking for take-home pay, it is in the tax section rather than here. This section is about what employment pays outside the monthly salary: hours, sick days, holiday and benefits.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some calculators in this section show no number?
Because the benefit formulas are written in law, but the coefficients and tables they need have to come from a public VSAA or VID page. Until one is confirmed, the page names the exact missing figure and shows nothing — an estimate that looks right is worse than a blank.
Who pays benefits in Latvia — the employer or the state?
Both, depending on the benefit. The employer pays the start of sick leave and the state covers the rest through VSAA. Holiday pay comes from the employer, while unemployment benefit and pension are paid by VSAA out of the social contributions the employer declared to VID.
Why do my average earnings differ from my salary?
Because average earnings are worked out from pay over several preceding months, supplements and bonuses included, divided by days — not taken from last month's figure. VSAA reads the data from the employer's reports to VID, so a recent pay change shows up with a lag.
How does undeclared pay affect benefits?
Directly. Sickness benefit, unemployment benefit and pension are all calculated only on the part of pay that carried social contributions and appears in the employer's report to VID. Undeclared pay raises none of them, and it cannot be corrected later.
