How is the state pension calculated in Latvia?
The pension is the accumulated pension capital divided by the projected number of years it will be paid. That capital is built from VSAOI contributions credited to the first tier over the years, recorded by VSAA from the employer's reports to VID — so official pay directly sets the pension.
Why does this calculator show no amount?
Because two figures are missing: the capital index used to revalue the accumulation, and the table of projected payout years applied to the retirement age. Both change annually, and until VSAA confirms them on its public page an estimate would mislead.
What are the three pension tiers?
The first tier is the state pay-as-you-go part funded from current VSAOI contributions, the second is the state funded part invested in markets, and the third is voluntary private saving. The first two build automatically from payroll contributions VSAA sees through VID data.
How does undeclared pay affect a future pension?
Directly and irreversibly: only pay on which VSAOI contributions were made, and which appears in the employer's report to VID, is credited to pension capital. Undeclared pay adds nothing at all, and years later the gap cannot be filled by a backdated payment.
