Who is entitled to unemployment benefit?
The benefit goes to a person with unemployed status who has the required social insurance record and for whom VSAOI contributions were paid. The claim is made to VSAA, which reads the insurance history from the employer's reports to VID rather than from submitted papers.
Why does this calculator show no amount?
Because two figures are missing: the benefit percentages by length of insurance record, and the taper schedule by which the benefit shrinks while it is paid. Until those are confirmed on a public VSAA or VID page, the calculator names them and shows no number.
How long can unemployment benefit be paid?
The benefit runs for a limited number of months and its amount tapers during that time rather than staying flat. The exact duration and the steps of the taper are set in regulation and confirmed by VSAA, which also takes the claim and makes the payment.
Is unemployment benefit taxed?
Personal income tax is withheld from the benefit, but no social contributions are paid on it. The rate, and whether the tax-free allowance applies, follow from the rates VID publishes, so the amount received is always below the amount calculated.
